Biography

Giovanni Michelucci was an Architect and Urban Planner of the post-war era, after both World War I and World War II. His family ran an iron workshop, so he grew up surrounded by design. He graduated from Superiore di Architettura di Firenze and worked in Tuscany for a short period before moving to Rome and meeting his wife, an architecture professor. He gained a large following when he emerged as an original voice in the Italian post-war debate between the national pride in antiquity and a young generation of rationalists. He was particularly active in the start of the magazine 'La Nuova Cittá' in 1945, proposing interventions in the center of a World War II destroyed Florence. His studio, home, and headquarters of his foundation are in Fiesole.
