Biography
Edoardo Detti was an influential 20th century Italian architect and urban planner. Born in Florence on January 16, 1913, Detti was the son of a coal merchant. He studied directly under Giovanni Michelucci at the University of Florence and later went on to complete several projects with Michelucci, including Ponte alle Grazie. After serving in World War II as an officer, Detti came back to Florence and played an important role in the reconstruction of the city. As an architect, he was heavily influenced by the works of not only his teacher, Michelucci, but also by that of Le Corbusier and Carlo Scarpa. As an urban planner, he worked closely with Giovanni Astengo. In 1970, Detti was appointed as the president of the National Institute of Urban Planning. Detti passed away on December 24, 1984 in Florence.
